Dear mediCAD – User,
We actively offer valuable training programs in order to familiarize you and others at your clinic
with pre-operative digital planning using our mediCAD Classic software solution.




By using this software, you will eliminate much of the time associated with conventional planning for prostheses and osteosynthesis. The technology cuts down on the amount of time wasted preparing x-ray plates for archiving. In order to participate in the digital planning training, you will need to have two software programs installed in advance: mediCAD and medi-QR.

Immediately after that, you can start using and processing your own x-ray images locally.
An automatic algorithm is started right away for this purpose. Of course, automatic mediCAD scaling with a reference ball is always a requirement for professional digital planning. This gives you precise data that are necessary to perform professional planning and for the associated high-precision dimensioning.

In our mediCAD Planungs solution you will immediately find the current database of prostheses, also suitable for AO classifications of course.
By using professional electronic planning, you will significantly increase your precision and see anatomical constrictions even in this early phase.
Planning accurately determines the position and dimensions of individual implants.



After completing our training program (requires only a few hours), you will be able to perform professional pre-operative planning with complete independence. We will also introduce and explain to you the drawing tool, measurement tools, and other useful functions.

1. How can I find information (user manual) to the specific modules?
  The mediCAD user manual is available in digital form. Please press the F1 key on your keyboard. Alternatively, klick on the question mark in the mediCAD menu bar. You can find the user manual under menu item “Help”.

2. What shall I do in case automatic scaling with a reference sphere doesn’t work?
  In the mediCAD menu bar, select FILE, then SETTINGS and then SCALING. You can now choose the required scaling mode and enter the diameter of the reference sphere in mm.

3. How can I hide specific manufacturers, so the whole prosthesis database list isn’t displayed every time?
  Please select the manufacturer you don’t need and perform a right click with the mouse. Select HIDE ITEM. The manufacturer will not be displayed any longer. At the end of the manufacturer list, you can see a small arrow symbol, containing the hidden elements.

4. How do I proceed with my planning, when prostheses consist of multiple elements (e.g. revision stem systems) and I don’t want to exit the prosthesis database after each element?
  Please click on the “+” button in the implant tool. You can now automatically add another element.

5. Where do I find e.g. gamma nails or PFNA nails?
  Please select menu item OSTEOSYNTHESIS (or PLATES/NAILS) in the planning tool. You can find further implants there.

6. Where do I CUT THE FEMUR during hip planning?
  Without regard to the subsequent resection, please draw a line through the femoral neck, then define a polygon image area. Finish drawing the polygon with a right click of the mouse.

7. When do I have to correct abduction/adduction during hip planning?
  This is an optional function only, in case of an inherent malposition or if the x-ray is not ideal due to a less cooperative patient.

8. How do I bring the rotation centers of cup and stem to congruency?
  This requires a cut femur and the selection of one single neck length (head center). Using the function REPOSITION OF SHAFT/PROSTHESIS, click on the crosshairs of the femoral neck. The program automatically captures the prosthesis center, when moving the cursor of the mouse towards it. CAUTION: Please always zoom in, in order to avoid a wrong reposition.

9. In the Osteotomy module, what is the difference between KNEE BASE TIBIA NORMAL and KNEE BASE TIBIA WITH FUJISAWA POINT?
  Using the function “KNEE BASE TIBIA WITH FUJISAWA POINT”, additionally to the tibial knee base center a second point (Fujisawa point) is drawn. It is displayed as an “X”. This point is lateral at 62% of the mediolateral tibial plateau and defines the 3° overcorrection. The center line (Mikulicz line) is later drawn through this point.

10. In the Osteotomy module, how do I draw my line in order to obtain an OPEN WEDGE or a CLOSED WEDGE?
  Define the line by 2 points in the same way you would perform the resection intraoperatively. With the third point, the rotation center for OPEN WEDGE or CLOSED WEDGE is defined.
